Program Group Leader PRN

SUMMARY

The PRN Activity Leader is responsible for aiding in the supervision of campers and the facilitation of camp activities.   Activity Leaders provide activities during school year programming. 

The PRN Activity Leader is directly supervised by the Camp Director.

This is a seasonal temporary hourly position. This position is eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Demonstrates attentiveness, alertness, and discretion while supervising campers in order to maintain a safe camping experience for all participants.
  1. Displays compassion, patience, tolerance, and gentleness when working with campers and community partners to create a caring and understanding environment.
  1. Uses joyfulness, creativity, enthusiasm, and initiative while teaching assigned camp activities in order to engage youth and ensure their participation in a fun and exciting camp atmosphere.
  1. Exercises discretion and self control while maintaining the character trait of virtue in order to be an appropriate role model for our youth and fellow staff members at all times.
  1. Uses hospitality and attentiveness to make Law Enforcement Officer volunteers and any donors, guests, or media feel welcome and included in the camp program.
  1. Exercises flexibility and availability when faced with change and displays a willingness to assist in any Camping Services program when requested.
  1. Displays honor, dependability, and obedience when direction is given or a request is made thus contributing to the smooth operation and success of the camp program.
  1. Practices diligence and orderliness in completing required paperwork such as mileage logs, travel expense vouchers, incident reports, and time sheets.
  1. Demonstrates resourcefulness, thriftiness, orderliness, and wise stewardship of the agency’s resources including the maintenance of and cleanliness of all activity areas and supplies, staff housing area if provided, and agency vehicles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position with at least one year of college or work experience preferred. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each area of responsibility satisfactorily.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  1. Must be able to establish and maintain warm, consistent relationships with youth, parents, and/or guardians and other Youth Ranches personnel.
  1. Must possess some basic knowledge of group dynamics, child development, and group living.
  1. Must have a willingness to work as a team member for the development of youth and families served.
  1. Must have the ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
  1. Must be able to communicate with people utilizing verbal and written skills.
  1. Must be willing to work in an outdoor environment.  Prior camping experience would be helpful but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements described are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and teach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is generally performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to various working conditions such as wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud.

BASE SALARY                  $14.00 Hourly
