SUMMARY
The Substitute Teacher is an on-call as needed employee of the school. A Substitute Teacher may be called the day before they are needed or early in the morning on the day of the absence of the regular teacher due to illness or other obligations. A substitute teacher is expected to be a role model for the students like the regular teachers. He or she supports the main school calendar by stepping up when the agreed teacher is unable to take their full responsibilities. The substitute teacher will perform the instructional and classroom management duties for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time.
The Substitute Teacher is directly responsible to the Dean of Students.
This position is eligible for overtime pay.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
- Must follow detailed lesson plans and schedules assigned by academic teacher.
- Oversee students outside of the classroom, in hallways, and during all transition times.
- Comply with FSYR and Cooke School policy and procedures.
- Must be able to work with youth and manage classroom effectively, utilizing the approach and methods of Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI).
- Take attendance and document pertinent behaviors on school notes.
- Ensure classroom cleanliness.
- Must be flexible with availability.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The person filling this position must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification. Experience working with youth or experience in a similar position is preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Must be fully qualified to instruct or teach the students in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Must have the ability to interact and relate with youth in care.
- Must be detail oriented and be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must have excellent time management skills.
- Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers, handle or feel. This employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, hear, and talk extensively. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS Working conditions for this job may include outdoor weather conditions and working near mechanical moving parts. Work is generally performed in a classroom environment.
BASE SALARY
$45,760 Annually.
