Formerly a Girl Scout Camp, the Florida Sheriffs Youth Camp was acquired by the Youth Ranches in 1982. It consists of 200 acres of forested property near Barberville.
The Youth Camp operates part of the year as a summer camping program, serving hundreds of dependent, neglected, and troubled youth. The camping experience is designed to give boys and girls a wholesome, loving, educational, and carefree atmosphere in a natural setting where they can be themselves, and learn to deal with some of their problems.
Boys and girls from all over Florida attend Summer Camp. They interact with camp staff and volunteer Law Officers to reinforce positive attributes and overcome negative attitudes. Some activities youngsters participate in include: swimming, canoeing, archery, sports activities, hiking, arts and crafts, completing a low and high ropes challenge course, and special demonstrations by various Sheriffs Offices.
The "Harmony in the Streets" program is a mobile camping program in which services are provided directly to the community.
Due to the generosity of individuals and groups throughout Florida and other states, many children attend the Youth Camp's programs free of charge.
